Calfee Community & Cultural Center Comes to Life through MTM Health Giving

In 2021, MTM Health was proud to support the Calfee Community & Cultural Center in Pulaski, Virginia with a $5,000 donation through our MTM Health Giving program. The currently being built Calfee Community & Cultural Center is revitalizing the legacy of the historic Calfee Training School. From 1894 to 1966, the Calfee Training School educated local African American children. Faced with severe underfunding from Jim Crow segregation, the Calfee Training School became a community, helping children and their families reach their full potential.

The new Calfee Community & Cultural Center will revitalize the positive aspects of this legacy by supporting all of Pulaski County’s children, families, and organizations. MTM Health’s contribution to the initiative is sponsoring a small kitchenette in the Center, which will give community members using Calfee facilities access to a fridge, sink, and more.

While groundbreaking for the project has been delayed due to cost constraints, the Center has received additional federal and state funding to begin building. Recently, local MTM Health teammates had the opportunity to attend a community breakfast highlighting the forthcoming project, where we were able to see floor plans for the building, including the MTM-sponsored kitchenette.
