MTM Awarded Paratransit Brokerage Contract in New York City

MTM, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a paratransit brokerage contract for MTA New York City Transit (MTA NYCT)’s Access-A-Ride (AAR) program. Under this new program, MTM will work with livery and black car companies to ensure AAR customers have access to their community through paratransit service, a type of flexible transportation provided to passengers with disabilities. Like other public transit providers, NYCT is mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to offer complementary paratransit service.

To allow for back-up availability, NYCT opted to award the program to two contractors through a 60%/40% split; MTM was awarded 60% of the program. The estimated contract value is $106 million for the initial three year period. NYCT may also choose to exercise an option of up to two years following the initial term. MTM anticipates providing approximately 1.2 million annual trips to AAR customers. Implementation of New York City’s five boroughs will be phased in gradually. Beginning November 1, MTM will utilize its new operations center in Brooklyn to schedule and dispatch trips assigned by NYCT to a highly qualified network of transportation providers.

“Paratransit service is an extremely important component of any transit agency’s transportation program, and MTM is honored to be a part of NYCT’s innovative broker approach,” said MTM President and CEO Alaina Maciá. “For [shortcode-variables slug=”years-of-business”] years, MTM has been a top non-emergency transportation broker, serving disabled and elderly populations in a high quality manner. We are excited to begin applying our innovative management methods to provide high quality oversight of daily operations, achieve vast cost reductions, and meet our goal of helping the communities we serve eliminate barriers to daily living needs.”
