MTM Named 2024 Champion for Diversity & Inclusion by the St. Louis Business Journal

MTM is honored to announce that we have been named a 2024 Champion for Diversity & Inclusion by the St. Louis Business Journal! This prestigious award recognizes those who are making significant strides in promoting diversity around race, sexual orientation, and disability in the St. Louis region. We are honored to be the winning for-profit company alongside non-profit honoree SSM Health.

The St. Louis Business Journal‘s Champions for Diversity & Inclusion Awards celebrate individuals and organizations that are committed to fostering a more inclusive environment in both their workplaces and communities. This year’s honorees include some of the region’s largest private and public companies, such as MilliporeSigma, St. Louis City SC, SSM Health, and of course, MTM.

“Being named a Champion for Diversity & Inclusion is a tremendous honor for MTM,” said President and CEO Alaina Macia. “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for our employees and the communities we serve. We believe that our diverse perspectives make us stronger and more innovative, and we will continue to champion diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our operations.”

MTM’s Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Our dedication to diversity and inclusion began in earnest in 2019 when President and CEO Alaina Macia launched our Declaration of Diversity, emphasizing our pledge to champion diversity and inclusion for all employees. Here are some key initiatives that highlight why we were selected for this honor:

  1. Authentic Self-Expression: We encourage employees to include their pronouns in email signatures and offer the option to include their preferred name in our HR system. This promotes a culture of respect and authenticity.
  2. Leadership Education: Our leaders receive extensive training on unconscious bias, microaggressions, and cultural competency to enhance their inclusive leadership skills.
  3. Employee Feedback and Analysis: We conduct quarterly engagement surveys and annual DEI analyses to gauge our workplace environment and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Educational Opportunities: Our DEI program includes guest speaker sessions, a diversity book club, and monthly celebrations to integrate diversity and inclusion into our everyday lives.
  5. Leadership Development: The Bench Program, our leadership development initiative, boasts a diverse group of participants, reflecting our commitment to developing diverse leadership.

At MTM, DEI is not just a performative act—it is a fundamental part of our daily operations. Our goal is to create an engaging, empowering, and high-performing atmosphere where every employee feels responsible for contributing to our DEI efforts.

Promoting Diversity & Inclusion in the St. Louis Region

MTM’s commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond our workplace into the St. Louis community as a whole. Here are some ways we support the St. Louis region:

  1. Philanthropy and Community Support: Through our MTM Giving program, we support local organizations dedicated to diversity and inclusion, such as the Metro Trans Umbrella Group and Pride STL. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to distribute food and essentials to over 3,000 families in need.
  2. Youth Empowerment: We support the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, providing youth with opportunities to learn and grow alongside peers from various backgrounds.
  3. Workforce Diversity Expansion: We are working to expand diversity within our St. Louis area team through partnerships with organizations like TCARE, Falcontek, and Alphapointe. In particular, our partnership with TCARE has allowed us to establish a large office in downtown St. Louis, allowing us to hire from a more diverse pool of potential employees who rely on public transportation to access their workplace.

The Business Journal will recognize this year’s winners at a luncheon on September 12, with a special awards section publishing on September 13. This section will highlight how MTM and our fellow winners are making the St. Louis region a more inclusive place to live, work, and play.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and remain committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within our workplace and beyond. Thank you to the St. Louis Business Journal for this recognition, and congratulations to all the 2024 honorees!
